Stichtse Vecht lies between Amsterdam and Utrecht. Due to its green character, picturesque villages and the many 17th- and 18th-century historic buildings situated along the river Vecht, the municipality is nicknamed ‘Pearl at the Vecht’.
The cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht are connected in several ways. The Amsterdam Rijnkanaal connects them by water, the A2 motorway by road and the railway by train. All of these transit routes pass through Stichtse Vecht, which means the municipality is highly accessible. During rush hour, there is even a direct connection between Maarssen and De Uithof, where both Utrecht University and Utrecht Science Park are located.
Stichtse Vecht is home to many lakes and two castles. There are also various top-class amenities, including a couple Michelin star restaurants.
