Amersfoort

Lying north east of Utrecht, Amersfoort is the second largest city in Utrecht Region. The city has medieval roots and a rich history, which can be found in the centuries-old street pattern, the historic buildings and the well-tended monuments. With its lovely canals, vibrant squares, cafes and restaurants, indoor and outdoor events and shopping streets, Amersfoort is a great place to explore or settle in.

Founded more than 800 years ago, Amersfoort is now a modern city set around a beautiful historic centre. It is arguably the Netherlands’ most liveable city: Amersfoort has won the award for being the best large Dutch city to live and work in for three consecutive years. Around 2005, the city developed the first neighbourhood in which every house had access to solar energy. Today, 98% of homes are covered by fibre optic broadband.

Situated in the geographic centre of the Netherlands, the city affords easy access to Utrecht (15 minutes), Amsterdam (35 minutes) and The Hague (60 minutes).

Vathorst

Vathorst, the city’s newest residential development, has around 9,000 homes and 25,000 inhabitants. It has by far the largest percentage of young families in Amersfoort. Vathorst is located at the intersection of two major motorways and has its own train station, which affords convenient access to Amsterdam. The area has a wide range of amenities, including shopping facilities, sports grounds, restaurants and schools.
Kattenbroek

Kattenbroek possesses great architectural diversity and was completed around 15 years ago. With 4,600 homes and about 12,000 inhabitants, the residential neighbourhood has its own shopping facilities and is close to the city centre.
Bergkwartier/Leusdenkwartier

This neighbourhood, with 7,000 homes and 14,000 inhabitants, was developed in the early 1900s. A green area with many large trees and wide streets, the housing options range from spacious mansions to terraced houses. The city centre and Amersfoort Central Station are less than five minutes by bike or bus.
